The School of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence originates from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of Fuqing Branch of Fujian Normal University. In June 2014, it was integrated with the Department of Electronics and Information Engineering to establish the School of Electronics and Information Engineering. In response to the needs of discipline development of the university, in January 2021, the School of Electronics and Information Engineering was divided into the School of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence and the School of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering. The school consists of 63 faculty members(50 full-time teachers), including 5 professors, 19 associate professors and senior experimentalists, 28 lecturers and experimentalists. There are 5 teachers with the Doctoral Degree, 11 PhD candidates, and 32 with the Master’s Degree, among which 18 are double-qualified teachers. It offers 6 undergraduate majors, including Computer Science and Technology, Digital Media Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Data Collection and Application, Network Engineering and Internet of Things Engineering. In addition, there is 1 provincial-level major cluster, 1 provincial-level characteristic major, 1 provincial-level applied talent training major for production, learning, research and application, 1 provincial-level applied discipline and 1 provincial-level training base for vocational education of intelligent engineering.
The school currently has 13 collaborative education projects of production and research approved by China’s Ministry of Education, 2 innovation and entrepreneurship majors at the provincial level, 1 provincial engineering research center, 2 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 3 provincial experimental teaching platforms for basic courses, 1 provincial-level training base for "Internet plus Innovation and Entrepreneurship", 1 provincial school-enterprise cooperation base. The school has nourished a favorable cultural environment for innovation and entrepreneurship, and has made fruitful achievement in the cultivation of applied talents.
Up to now, School of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence has established on-campus experimental practice and training bases such as the Information Engineering Center and College Students’ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center. There are several scientific research laboratories, including wireless multi-network technology laboratory, IoT (Internet of Things) innovation training room, mobile internet laboratory, VR/AR laboratory, e-commerce big data training room, and cloud computer laboratory. The school jointly established Huawei ICT(information and communications technology) Academy with Huawei and Tsingchuang Future Group Co., Ltd., and launched the Huawei 1+X certificate program. It cooperated with Baidu to develop the course of "Comprehensive Practice of Professional Orientation Courses", and carried out industry-university-research cooperation with ChinaSoft International Science and Techonology of Education Group(Xiamen), TPV Electronics(Fujian)Co., Ltd., Fujian Hongyu Electronic Science and Technology Co., Ltd., Fujian Star-net Communication Co., Ltd., NetDragon Websoft Inc, Chukong Technologies and other enterprises, establishing training bases, and actively promoting the collaborative innovation of teaching, scientific research and service.
In recent years, School of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence has obtained 1 National Science Foundation of China(NSFC) project, and now has 1 provincial scientific research platform, 13 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, 25 scientific research projects of the Education Department of Fujian Province, and 28 horizontal scientific research projects. 1 person is included in the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in Universities in Fujian Province, and 1 person in the Outstanding Young Scientific Research Talents Program of Fujian Province for Universities and Colleges. More than 30 papers were cited by SCI and EI, and 6 authorized invention patents and more than 20 utility model patents were confirmed. 1 teacher won the second prize of Fujian Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award, and 2 teachers were awarded the second prize and third prize in the Teaching Competition for Young Teachers in Colleges and Universities in Fujian Province. The School has 1 provincial-level service industry specialty group, 1 provincial-level characteristic specialty, 1 provincial-level virtual simulation experiment teaching center, and 1 provincial-level “Internet plus Innovation and Entrepreneurship” training base. There are 7 enterprise-university cooperative education projects of the Ministry of Education, 2 provincial-level major educational reform projects, 7 provincial-level excellent courses, high-quality resource sharing courses, open online courses and other various first-class courses.
